TriviaLAB typically recommend a minimum of four weeks to launch your trivia night. This time is spent marketing your game, setting up the sound system, and preparing your trivia host. While we can sometimes expedite this process, it's not always successful and can impact the turnout on the first night. For the best experience, we recommend giving us at least four weeks to prepare for the launch of your trivia night.

2. When will I start to see results?

The main purpose of hosting a trivia night is to bring more people into your bar. While there's no guarantee of how much your weekly sales will increase, we typically see an average of four to six teams in the first few weeks. TriviaLAB's goal is to average at least eight teams by week ten. It's important to communicate your expectations with your trivia company upfront to avoid any disappointment later on.

3. What is your company doing to help promote the quiz?

Promoting your trivia night is crucial to its success, and your trivia partner should be doing more than just providing a flier. TriviaLAB uses a combination of onsite and online marketing to attract players to your venue. Don't hesitate to ask your trivia company to customize their marketing approach to fit your needs. For example, if your venue is located in an area with heavy foot traffic, you might ask them to focus more on signage rather than online advertising.

4. What recommendations do you have for me to promote the quiz?

6. What happens if I don’t like my host?

Not every host is a good fit for every venue, and it's important to address any issues as soon as possible. The trivia company should be willing to work with the bar owner to find a solution that works for both parties.

The best option is to provide feedback to the current host and work with them to improve their performance. The trivia company may be able to provide training or guidance to help the host better understand the venue's expectations and tailor their approach accordingly.

Another option is to request a different host who may be a better fit for the venue's ambiance and audience. The trivia company may have other hosts available who have different styles or personalities that could be a better match for the bar.

Ultimately, the goal is to provide a high-quality trivia night experience for the bar's customers. By working closely with the trivia company and being open to finding a solution that works best for the venue, a bar owner can ensure a successful trivia night.

7. What happens if no one shows up?

This is extremely rare but is the biggest nightmare leading up to any event is that no one shows up. If it happens on week one, we’ll postpone the first night and put more promotion behind the re-launch. If it happens again, we’ll terminate the agreement and go our separate ways with no hard feels.

If no one shows up one week to an established trivia night, we’ll only charge 50% of the fee and reassess the future of that game

8. Do you have any local references?

Just like online shopping, hearing ratings and reviews from other ‘consumers’ can be really helpful in making a final decision. Ask your trivia company for references, particularly local ones. Other local venues are likely to give you an honest review of their experience with the company, and help you anticipate any issues. At TriviaLAB, we love to connect our partner venues!

9. Do you offer discounts?

If you don’t ask, you’ll never know! Many trivia companies offer discounts for paying upfront, or using a certain mode of payment. It’s important to us to make sure that billing is set up in a way that works well for both us and our partner venues.

10. What prizes are associated with the quiz?

Prizes are an important part of trivia night. Always work with your trivia partner to understand what those prizes are, and what, if anything, you will need to contribute to the prize package.

TriviaLAB recommends $50, $25, and $10 for the top three teams. These should be in the form of a gift certificate to your venue and NOT cash or a gift card to a different business. Gift cards are a great way to build a crowd week after week.

11. How do I make ensure you won’t host trivia at a competitor venue at my same day and time?

Trivia companies are used to hearing this question and should be able to establish a radius to ensure that they aren’t competing against themselves. This protects both them and you, and ensures you will own trivia and your day and time each week.

12. What’s your cancellation policy?

TriviaLAB requires at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel a certain week for any reason. The most common reason a venue would cancel one week is a private party or sporting event. That notice gives us time to handle billing and alert the trivia host and players.

If you want to cancel your trivia night completely, check your agreement for the time frame. In most cases, TriviaLAB requires two weeks written notice.
